P. occidentale with immersed thalli and A. inquinans&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;h2 id=&#34;substrate&#34;&gt;&#xA;  Substrate&#xA;  &lt;a class=&#34;anchor&#34; href=&#34;#substrate&#34;&gt;#&lt;/a&gt;&#xA;&lt;/h2&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;Both preferring wood, especially wooden handrail in harbors, but with A. inquinans being reported as more flexible being found occasionally on bark or rarely on rock (CLH).&lt;/p&gt;</description>

Does not produce soredia. The species also lacks isidia although the young growths may appear similar to isidia.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;h2 id=&#34;substrate&#34;&gt;&#xA;  Substrate&#xA;  &lt;a class=&#34;anchor&#34; href=&#34;#substrate&#34;&gt;#&lt;/a&gt;&#xA;&lt;/h2&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;In Alaska the species has only been collected from Admiralty Island where it has been found growing on rock (Anderson 2012, Spribille et al. 2023). In British Columbia the species is also found growing on snags or dead portions of living conifers (COSEWIC 2016).&lt;/p&gt;</description>

In C. tigillare the apothecia are immersed while they are exposed in C. pinicola. These are two of the few crustose species included in this guide due to their conspicuous highlighter-yellow color and because the species may not be common in Alaska and may deserve conservation attention in the state.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
