This species is part of the Caliciaceae family, although it is not necessarily intuitive that that is the case. It is a highly appressed rock species which is very common in Alaska although probably not ubiquitous. Almost always abundantly fertile in mature thalli. It contains usnic acid from which, at least in part, it gets its yellowish moonglow color.
