Identification #

This is a polyphyletic morphogroup which contains lichens of two classes. These species generally have gel-like textures, especially when hydrated. Most species lack stratified thalli. Green, brown, dark red, blackish, or dark bluish green colors in most species.

These lichens are grouped because laboratory work should be used to determine these lichens to species. Inspection of spores, microscopy of the thalli, and even genetic methods should be used to ID these very similar looking lichens.
