Thalli greenish yellow, can vary from near cylindrical to a flattened form; rugose surface. Brown apothecia are produced very rarely but the species lacks soredia and isidia (Brodo et al. 2001, CLH).

 Substrate
 #

terricolous in calcareous situations (Spribille et al. 2023)

Yellow, gold, bright green, with browned bases. Some of the older literature suggest that apothecia are very rare in D. arctica, but in Alaska fertile forms are common in many remote tundra sites. The apothecia of D. beringica have not yet been found.
