Identification #

Part of the Peltigera didactyla complex, resembling that species and P. extenuata. P. castanea has a dark chestnut colored upper surface from which it gets its epithet, castanea. P. didactyla and extenuata are more greenish gray, not so drastically concavely lobed. P. castanea has darker veins on the ventral surface and is less tomentose dorsally relative to P. didactyla (Goffinet et al. 2003).
