Identification #

Lacking rhizines on the underside. Attached by a black holdfast or rhizopt. When fertile the apothecia are described as being planar. The cortex in P. tartarea differs from P. venosa in being more uneven rather than smooth, and with a pruina (Vitikainen 2006).

A species described from Alaska; the holotype from Lake Schrader. Data deficient, more collections needed. Herbaria and new collections which may appear like Peltigera venosa s. lat. should be screened as they may represent this taxon.
