Identification #

Flavocetraria cucullata is an off white to light green or sometimes yellowish lichen with very narrow, canaliculate, erect lobes. The lobe tips of this species flare outward like a trumpet which separates from the rarer but similar F. minuscula which terminates in tips which curl downwards like small claws.

A ubiquitous species in the alpine throughout Alaska. Sometimes found at lower elevations at forest margins or bogs and fens.
